De CRT SS-8900 is de  opvolger van de SS-7900 V Turbo.
Het apparaat beschikt over een VOX-functie.
Een 5 kHz Stap en het moderne NRC-filter (ruisonderdrukking). 
De inbouwdiepte van de CRT SS-8900 is geslonken van 280 mm naar 230 mm.

De CRT SS-8900 is een mobiele transceiver die het mogelijk maakt om te zenden en ontvangen op AM/FM en SSB band (28 - 29,7 MHz).
Een andere innovatie was dat frequenties in de 2 meter band (136 - 174 MHz) via de optionele programmeer software kunnen worden opgeslagen voor alleen ontvangst.

De CRT SS-8900 heeft een zendvermogen van 60W PEP in AM-modus, tot 50W in FM en 60W PEP SSB, elk instelbaar.

Met behulp van de optionele programmeer software kan het apparaat persoonlijk worden gepersonaliseerd.
De USB-programmeerpoort "DATA" bevindt zich aan de achterkant van het apparaat.
Met behulp van de juiste USB-programmeerkabel wordt het apparaat op de pc aangesloten en kan het worden geprogrammeerd.
Gebruik geen conventionele USB-kabel met hetzelfde ontwerp, aangezien dit permanente schade aan het apparaat kan veroorzaken.
